Therapy

Therapy referrals

Looking for a therapist?

We don’t provide talk therapy at Keystone Psychiatry — we handle evaluation, diagnosis, and medication. These are the local practices we send our own patients to.

Medication and therapy do different jobs

For many conditions the two together work better than either alone. Plenty of our patients see us for medication and a therapist for the rest — that’s a normal arrangement, not a sign anything has gone wrong.

What we do

Psychiatric medication management

Evaluation, diagnosis, prescribing, and follow-up visits to adjust your plan. Appointments are shorter and less frequent once you’re stable.

What a therapist does

Talk therapy

Weekly or biweekly sessions working through what’s happening and building skills to handle it. This is the part medication doesn’t cover.

Getting started

How to set up therapy

  1. Call the practice directly. You don’t need us to send anything first. Tell them what you’re looking for and they’ll match you with a therapist who fits. If you’re already a Keystone Psychiatry patient, mention it — it tells them you’re working with a prescriber, which is useful context for whoever you’re matched with.
  2. Ask about insurance before your first session. Their accepted plans are not the same as ours. Confirm coverage with them, not with us.
  3. Ask about wait times. Therapy caseloads fill up. If one practice has a long wait, try the other.
  4. Tell us who you’re seeing. If you’re our patient, let us know at your next visit. Knowing you’re in therapy helps us make better medication decisions.
Please note

These practices are independent. They are not part of Keystone Psychiatry, and we receive no payment or benefit of any kind for referring to them. We list them because we think well of their work.

We can’t guarantee availability, insurance coverage, or fit with a particular therapist. If neither is right for you, your insurance company’s provider directory will list others in the area.

If you need help right now

Therapy intake can take weeks. If you’re in crisis, don’t wait — call or text 988 for the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, free and 24/7. If someone is in immediate danger, call 911.
